Texas Drunk Driving Statistics

Texas leads the nation in fatal alcohol-related accidents. It is a distinction that needs to be remedied.

In 2007 alone 1485 people died on Texas highways in alcohol related car accidents. Although since 1982 the numbers of drunk drivers and drunk driving fatality accidents have dropped, the problem is still out of control in Texas.

The numbers in Texas are staggering and on average four people die per day due to alcohol-related accidents in Texas. Actually the number is higher on the weekend and lower during the week. The worst times are specific holidays such as New Year’s, and after football games.

A recent crackdown in the Houston area led to 299 arrests for drunk driving during the month of November, 2010 and that was only on Friday and Saturday nights.
