Houston Jury Sentences Drunk Driver To 55 Years

A Harris County jury handed down some pretty significant justice in connection with a fatal drunk driving accident that happened in May of 2011. The defendant pleaded guilty and a trial took place on the punishment he should receive.

This is the latest case where the punishment handed out in Harris County for a drunk driving accident reached significant proportions. In effect, a drunk driver can sometimes be sentenced to more time in jail then someone who may have killed someone with a gun. The difference here is that the intent on the part of the defendant was only to get behind the wheel drunk and not to cause the accident or hurt another person.

The sentence should be the latest of a series of wake-up calls for those who may choose to drink while they drive and put others at risk. According to reports, the defendant must serve 27 years before he is eligible for parole.

One of the things that make America the strongest is our jury system and in this case the system does speaking loud and clear–don’t get drunk and driving Houston and injure or kill someone.
