Houston leads the nation in fatal drunk driving accidents. This is not a distinction that Houstonians are proud of or one that does our community justice. Recently, the city in conjunction with other authorities has instituted a no refusal weekend policy which in effect is mandatory blood tests for all those who refuse breathalyzer tests. While the policy only covers the weekends it is a major step forward in the battle against drunk driving.
There are many outstanding groups that are fighting to help prevent drunk driving accidents including, Krystas Karing Angles, which goes around to local schools and shows wrecked vehicles in addition to drunk driving education of teens. Also, mothers against drunk driving has been a strong force in both education and legislation concerning drunk driving accidents.
Finally, it is my belief that drunk driving can only be combated by a strong educational element named at new drivers. It is for this reason that I urge you to support groups like Krystas Karing Angles.
